THE MUSIC
Let’s talk about the music that is so much a part of The Keatyn Chronicles for me. When writing, I either have total silence, or I tend to listen to the same song on repeat a million times.
The songs that I chose for the final playlists for the books were songs my kids and I searched for to fit each scene meticulously. Sometimes it is the lyrics. Sometimes the voice. The beat. But the songs all fit the scenes.
You’d be shocked to know how much time I spent compiling the playlist for each book. I wanted them to be just right.
The songs often gave you insight to how Aiden was feeling, and I was honestly really nervous that I would give away that he was Moon Boy with some of my choices.
I’m going to list the playlists below along with the scenes they match up to. These are on my website for future reference. Just click the link.
I’ve added commentary about each song choice—things I couldn’t have said while writing the series.
Stalk Me
“Wild Ones” by Flo Rida
“Why don’t you dump the Sandman? Come play with Cush?”
The Scene: Come play with Cush.
This song is so Keatyn. Because she is totally a wild one. Can’t you just picture her dancing on the bar at one of Cush’s parties to this song?
“Crave You” by Flight Facilities
The Scene: Your dirty little secret.
This is the kind of song that would have played when she took Cush dancing with her at The Side Door. This is a sexy song and fitting for what will become of their relationship.
“Surfer Girl” by The Beach Boys
The Scene: Abs to freaking die for.
Not Twisted Dreams’ version, but definitely describes Keatyn and Brooklyn’s laid-back relationship. He even calls her his little surfer girl.
“Stolen” By Dashboard Confessionals
The Scene: When our lips finally meet.
Brooklyn stole her heart two years ago when he taught her how to surf. She’s very happy when they finally get together.
“Beautiful People” by Chris Brown
The Scene: Possibly a little bit hotter.
This song sums up the Monte Carlo party that Vanessa and RiAnne throw to figure out who should sit at their table next year. Keatyn doesn’t really want to be a part of it.
“Tonight” by John Legend
The Scene: Please say yes.
Sexy, seductive song for a night with Cush.
“Hit and Run” by Breathe Carolina
The scene: I smell like a princess.
Cush plans a special night. This song shows that he’s wanting their relationship to be more than just a hook-up.
“All You” by The Cataracs
The Scene: Body shots!
The song that Alex Littleton turns up when Cush does body shots off Keatyn at a party. Also a song that I listened to a lot when writing Cush and Keatyn scenes. It fits their fun, sexy relationship.
“Monster” by Skillet
The Scene: The biggest bitch of all.
How Keatyn feels when she realizes what she’s turned into in trying to go up against Vanessa.
“Love Life” by He is We
The Scene: My life is a mess.
Licking her wounds in France, Keatyn is trying to figure out her screwed up love life. Because her love life kind of sucks right now.
“Float Away” by Robbie Rivera
The Scene: Keats for my Keats.
The summer of waves or the summer of love? Forgetting about the real world on a beach somewhere in Europe with Brooklyn.
“Russian Privejet” by Basshunter
The Scene: Hands all over your ass.
Keatyn having a ball dancing in a London disco. Brooklyn, not so much.
“Since You’ve Been Gone” by A Day to Remember
The Scene: All bullshit aside, I did.
Keatyn decides to break up with Brooklyn. Especially the parts where she says she’s so moving on. This was a song I first heard by Kelly Clarkson, but I love this pop-punk version.
“Happy Birthday” by The Click Five
The Scene: All bullshit aside, I did.
Although the lyrics of this song don’t exactly fit, this is how I envision Twisted Dreams sounding.
“Sirens” by Angels and Airwaves
The Scene: Click your heels together.
This song makes me think of all the stuff that is going through Keatyn’s head after the incident. She’s afraid to be at home. Can’t talk to her friends. Afraid she asked for this. Can’t wake up from a bad dream.
“Breathe” by He is We
The scene: Keatyn Douglas is no more.
Everyone thinks she’s handling things well, but she knows she’s just good at faking it. This is sort of the theme song for this book. She’s doing what she has to in order to survive. She’s trying to protect her family and, most of all, her little sisters. And when she gets to Eastbrooke, she feels safe, and like she can finally breathe again.
“Only One” by Sammy Adams
The Scene: I’ve died and gone to hottie heaven.
I absolutely adore this song. It’s totally a big spoiler because everyone knows I love Sammy Adams. And I wouldn’t waste one of his songs on just some guy. This song is basically Aiden’s point of view, telling you how he feels about Keatyn. She’s the one, people!
Kiss Me
“Kiss Me Again” by We Are the In Crowd
Again, it’s a slow, soft, amazing kiss. The kind of kiss that makes me feel like he’s kissing my soul.
The Scene: He’s kissing my soul.
How many ways can we describe Aiden’s amazing kisses? This song is cute and sweet.
“50 ways to Say Goodbye” by Train
“Really the more rumors Vincent hears the better as far as I’m concerned.”
The Scene: The paths you choose.
This song so made me laugh. Although it’s a different context, it made me think of all the rumors going around about where Keatyn is and why she left.
“Killin’ It” by Krewella
Knockout punch. Bam, baby.
The Scene: A lotta rage.
I love Krewella. Girl Power. The beat is so awesome, and I can so picture Keatyn all pissed off at Aiden and pretend punching his head in this scene.
“So Young So High” by Dada Life
“I’ve had about enough of high ass boys who don’t give a shit one way or another.”
The Scene: Tired of chilling.
This is a great song for this scene at the Cave, where they are young and getting high. LOL.
“Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees
I realize now why it seemed like people were murmuring behind me during my classes this morning.
The Scene: Shot heard ’round the world.
Gossip, gossip. This song is fun for the scene when everyone is talking about the photo of Keatyn and Dawson kissing on the bench.
“Heart Attack” by Trey Songz
“My heart still does a little flip when I see him.”
The scene: Sleazy train wreck.
When Brooklyn takes that girl in the cabana, I wanted to go in there and punch him. But it hurts Keatyn. Big time. And sends her reeling straight into molten lava hot Dawson’s bed.
“Die Young” by Ke$sha
“I wanted you to take off my bikini in the bedroom, and I hadn’t had a single drink.”
The Scene: Gave you goosebumps.
Because I loved Dawson, but knew they weren’t going to last, you will notice that the songs for Keatyn and Dawson are very different than the ones for Keatyn and Aiden. For Dawson they are more pop, less serious, partying or sexy songs.
“Give Me Everything Tonight” by Pitbull
I feel like I’m living a hot romance novel.
The Scene: His hormones kicked into overdrive.
Molten lava Dawson gets it all in this scene, as the song describes.
“Don’t Wake Me Up” by Chris Brown
“I really hope you don’t regret it. Or hate me.”
The Scene: Should I feel cheap?
This is actually a really sweet song about the morning after. Dawson is so cute how he brings her food.
“Let Yourself Go” by Green Day
I know I shouldn’t do this, but I’m not letting her get away with slamming me.
The Scene: They’re Gucci.
This scene is one of my favorites in the entire series. I love that Keatyn isn’t mean but sticks up for herself. In the South this is like saying, “Bless her heart,” and then slamming someone. The song is fitting because I felt like Keatyn sort of lets herself go in a good way against the most popular girl at school. And she does it politely. Point for Keatyn. (As if having sexy Dawson on her arm isn’t enough.)
“Live While We’re Young by One” Direction
“You feel so good.”
The Scene: Oh, shit. My bad.
Keatyn and Dawson get caught hooking up by Jake. This song is another fun, do it while we’re young song.
“Uh Oh” by Junior Doctor
“Oh, uh, yeah, that’s probably a bad idea. I was thinking like knocking boots, as in kicking a soccer ball with the boots, not, uh—”
The Scene: She likes to knock boots.
Ah, you guys! Listen to this song. I so love it. It’s totally Aiden’s perspective. In the story we all know that Keatyn says Aiden has the power to fill her head with cotton candy and not be able to speak or think. This song is basically Aiden saying the same thing about Keatyn. He gets tongue tied when she’s near him. His friends think it won’t work and that he’s crazy. (Logan.) His normal moves don’t work. And I love how he says something about taking all the air out of his lungs when he’s around her.
“Drive By” by Train
“That may be the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen you in.”
The Scene: Party, celebrate, hookup.
How many songs can we have where Dawson and Keatyn hook up? Here’s another one! LOL
“What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction
“I also want you to stop flipping your ponytail around.”
The Scene: Vote for letting him die.
Awww, I love this scene. Love how Aiden thinks her hair smells like cotton candy and it reminds him of the Ferris wheel. And he totally thinks she’s beautiful!
“Let Me Love You” by Ne-Yo
“You should love me,” he says sweetly.
The scene: My heart mated with his.
Oh, Ne-Yo, this is one of my all time favorite songs. And Aiden just wants Keatyn to let him love her. He’s making promises never to hurt her, to teach her to love, to always be there.
“Come Down with Love” by Allstar Weekend
He is totally teasing me, totally playing with me, and it pisses me off and makes me weak at the knees at the same time.
The Scene: Toying with my forcefield.
Another song from Aiden’s point of view. So adorable and such a cute song. Aiden has totally been bit by the love bug.
“Walls” by The Rocket Summer
Tears continue to stream down my face and start dripping all over my iPad.
The Scene: How many lies?
The Rocket Summer is a multi-instrument musician who I’ve had the pleasure of hearing live. He’s amazing. This song so fits this scene. She has nowhere to go. She’s trying to win. She doesn’t know how she ended up here. I also kind of picture this song as what Aiden would sing to her. He wants to help her.
“She’s So Mean” by Matchbox Twenty
“It’s no wonder you don’t have a girlfriend.”
The Scene: Pretending it was your head.
Love Keatyn and Aiden when they fight, because you can so see right through it. This song is sort of from Aiden’s point of view. She’s being mean, but he totally loves it about her. Talks about how she’s a hot mess and gets what she wants.
“Mercy” by Kanye West
“I want to do it like this. Up against my car.”
The Scene: Take them off.
A fun song about a doing things in a car—or up against it.
“Run” by Matt Nathanson
“Imagine what it will be like with the guy you’re really supposed to be with.”
The scene: I’d bite you. Make you mine.
Sexy, romantic Aiden song. He so wants Keatyn and this is a special song. I love how he’s comparing her to a wave, which is so fitting to the series.
“Over My Head” by The Fray
“Whenever you need me, I’m there.”
The Scene: I wish we didn’t fight.
Oh, Aiden is so in over his head with Keatyn. They keep fighting, but she is always on his mind.
“Feel Again” by OneRepublic
“My heart felt very happy.”
The Scene: What the hell?
I see this as a Dawson point of view, and really sort of Keatyn, too. Both of them had been hurt by their former loves and with each other, they are starting to feel love again.
“Learn To Fly” by Foo Fighters
“I’m starting a new life.”
The scene: The real you.
This scene is a big one in Keatyn’s life. You’ll notice it’s also an older song. On most all of the playlists, Keatyn snuck a few of their favorites into the movie soundtrack. This is one of them. Keatyn finds the shoes she wore to her birthday party left in her closet by Garrett. The shoes that are the real her. The shoes that mean she survived. For Keatyn, this song is about her starting over in a new life and learning to fly all by herself.
“All I Ever Wanted” by Basshunter
“I know you’re new, but we have very high standards here.”
The Scene: Good little mutt.
Great song. Can’t you see the boys dancing and taking their shirts off to spell out Homecoming?
Date Me
“Electric” by The DNC
“His eyes are kissing my soul. Caressing me like a lover.”
The Scene: Embarrassent protection program.
Although Dawson is molten lava in his hotness, Aiden is compared to lightning and electricity. This is a fun song about their hotness together.
“Lose Control” by Wiz Khalifa
“It’s been better than I could have scripted.”
The Scene: My supposed rebound.
Is Keatyn ever in control with Dawson? LOL. This is a sweet scene where Dawson asks her out.
“Comin’ in Hot” by Hollywood Undead
“Keatyn, be a pal. Go across the hall and find us something yummy.”
The Scene: Hearting me.
A late night dorm party in Aiden’s room. Fun party song about drinking.
“You’re My Song” by A Rocket to the Moon
“Are you saying I wasn’t a believable prince?”
The Scene: Be a rock star.
Fun song about a girl inspiring a guy’s music. Since Damian and Keatyn are so close, she’s inspired many of his songs. I love their friendship.
“Alive” by Krewella
“I could stay up here all night. Dance. Talk. Pretend to be someone else.”
The scene: Your arm candy.
This is another girl power song for Keatyn. She’s been brave and tried out for the play. And she feels like it’s brought her back to life, or is it just because Aiden puts his hand on her knee?
“Downtown Girl” by Hot Chelle Rae
“For the first time in my life, it feels okay to want to blend in.”
The Scene: An Eastbrooke Girl.
A fun song for the scene where Keatyn and the girls try on Homecoming dresses. Keatyn has always been big on standing out (and does) but it’s cute that in this scene she wants to blend in.
“Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons
“I think they’re still after us.”
The Scene: An Eastbrooke Girl.
Vincent and Keatyn see each other while shopping in New York, and he chases her through the streets. This song has a scary vibe, and I see it being from Vincent’s point of view.
“Dirty Talk” by Winter Gordon
“Now for the fun part. I get to lick it all off.”
The Scene: Hot tub naked.
Dawson licking sugar off Keatyn. And she likes it. This is a song that basically talks about all the places they do it. Which fits them.
“Hey Porsche” by Nelly
“He pushes me up against the door and gives me a hot kiss.”
The Scene: We’re definitely not.
Sexy Dawson song. He just wants to slide under and work on her.
“Rolling Stones T-Shirt” by Dada Life
“It’s really hot that I’m kissing you while you’re wearing my team jersey.”
The Scene: A little skimpy.
More Dawson and Keatie sexy times. This time she’s wearing his team jersey and nothing else. And he likes that.
“Give Me Your Hand” by The Ready Set
“I did it for all the people that I love. Did you love it?”
The Scene: Catcalls.
Finally, another Aiden song and another one of my personal favorites. Can you just see this from Aiden’s point of view? Aiden just performed a dance at the Mr. Eastbrooke contest and won. He wanted to only do a cheer like the other guys. He can dance well, but is embarrassed by that fact. Keatyn had told him he should only care what the people he loves think. They have a moment where he tells her he did it for the people he loves. (Meaning her!) And this song is so adorable. He’s all pumped up from winning, and he just wants her to take his hand and be with him.
“Kisses Down Low” by Kelly Rowland
“That dress has been driving me crazy.”
The Scene: Nothing says party like a red solo cup.
Very sexy Dawson and Keatyn in the hotel room after Homecoming song. The title pretty much tells you everything you need to know.
“Life of the Party” by Bex
“Girls, it’s time to get this party started!”
The Scene: Nothing says party like a red solo cup.
The perfect song to get the girls dancing and the party going at the Homecoming after party. And we all know Keatyn is the life of the party!
“I’m Not Your Boyfriend, Baby” by 30H!3
“I come back and she’s making out with him.”
The scene: Tigger with boobs.
Poor little Dallas. He took Katie to Homecoming, she got drunk and started making out with Tyrese. Not cool. This song is from his point of view. He doesn’t want to just be her sex toy.
“Secrets” by OneRepublic
“I feel bad that I’ve lied to him about things.”
The Scene: I’ll tell him everything.
Keatyn decides to trust Dawson with the truth. She’s going to take him to meet her parents.
“Feel This Moment” by Pitbull
“When I get my life back, I’m not going to let anything stop me.”
The Scene: Shut up and look pretty.
Keatyn is exhilarated by being up on stage in the play, and she’s definitely feeling the moment.
“Fall” by He is We
“A that’s what you wanted all along.”
The Scene: Second-guess myself.
The Dawson and Keatyn break-up song. She finally let him in and gave him a piece of her heart and now she’s done. Broken up by a two-word text.
“Top of the World” by the Cataracs
“Drinking champagne. Being naughty.”
The Scene: Looking good is the best revenge.
The perfect song for the revenge video she makes with Riley and Dallas. Great beat. Talks of dancing, drinking, being on a trip, going for a ride. Can’t you just picture it?
“Down” by Jay Sean
“Lying on his chest makes me feel like no matter how things seem, it will all be okay.”
The scene: Surf the crowd with me.
A song about how Damian is always there when she needs him.
“Get Away with Murder” by Jeffree Star
“I’ve been looking all over for you.”
The Scene: Now we match.
This is the scene where she has to dance with Vincent in the Miami club. It’s a creepy techno song that so fitting of when he makes their tattoos touch like they are making love.
“Swimming Pools (Drank)” by Kendrick Lamar
“I’m leaning toward bad girl. Carefree. Emotionless.”
The Scene: Revenge sex.
Party song. The night Keatyn drinks way too much to prove to Dawson that she doesn’t care about him.
“Light Up The Sky” by Yellowcard
“Open your eyes, silly.”
The scene: Learn to love yourself.
I couldn’t wait to team this song up with this scene. It’s so fitting since he lit up her sky with the glow-in-the-dark stars. It’s also a song that I consider being from Aiden’s point of view. You just have to listen to these lyrics. Knowing that he knew at this point who Keatyn really was and that she was lying. Oh, swoon. The lyrics talk of her choices, of her fight, and how he would save her. You’ll be smiling. Trust me.
Love Me
“Kiss You” by One Direction
“I’m thinking no one has ever kissed me the way you do,” I answer honestly. And surprisingly. Why the hell did I just say that?!
The Scene: A wonderful sense of powerlessness.
Another adorable song from Aiden’s point of view. He wants Keatyn to tell him she wants him. That she feels it, too.
“Let’s Go” by Calvin Harris ft. Ne-Yo
“Every time you kiss me, you move your hips into me, and you keep making those sexy little noises. I don’t know how much more I can take.”
The Scene: I need some cake.
This song has a few of Brooklyn’s words of advice in it about how it doesn’t matter where you’ve been. And she and Dawson definitely go. A lot. LOL
“Take Me Home” by Cash Cash
“Promise me that when this is over, I’ll get another chance.”
The Scene: The perfect ending.
Oh, this song makes me cry. It speaks so much of Keatyn and Brooklyn’s relationship, how she’s falling apart, how he hurt her, but she just wants him to take her home. She desperately wants to go home. Love this song. Listen to the lyrics. They might help you understand why she can’t give up on him.
“Love Like Woe” by The Ready Set
That’s what it’s like with Aiden. When he kisses me, I feel like I can see our future. It’s like he has the power to send me mental messages with his mouth.
The Scene: Can kisses speak?
Adorable Aiden and Keatyn song. Aiden’s point of view. There’s even a star reference. He needs her to give him a chance! It also speaks of how they are so up and down.
“Here’s to Never Growing Up” by Avril Lavigne
“Jeez, you don’t have to try and seduce the entire school your first night here.”
The Scene: You’re like my idol.
Braxton is at Eastbrooke and partying at the Cave. And drunk. Remember the puking incident where he throws up on the girl he likes, and she projectile vomits back at him? All while Keatyn is trying to get them back to the dorms without getting caught.
“C’Mon” by Ke$sha
“We should study fairy tales and happy endings,” he says, pulling me into his arms and giving me a fiery kiss.
The scene: A fiery kiss.
Jake and Keatyn in the moonlight. He’s telling her that she’s not feeling it. They’ve all been partying. And you can’t help but wonder as he kisses her under the moon if he really is the Good Prince. (I also may have put that scene in there to confuse people a little about who would be Moon boy. Tee hee.)
“Take Me” by Tiesto
“Yes. I want you back in my life, Keats. I need you back in my life.”
The Scene: Wrapped around her little finger.
Another Brooklyn and Keatyn song. They’ve been through so much. He’s off somewhere foreign. She just wants him to take her with him. For things to be normal. She wants her life back.
“Tonight is the Night” by Outasight
He runs a finger across my stomach. “Pretty good, yes. Amazing, no. But we have all night. I’m going to have to prove it to you.”
The Scene: Does he make you hot?
Keatyn goes home with Riley for his birthday and, of course, Dawson is there. And, whoo, is this a sexy night for him and Keatyn. This is from Dawson’s point of view. And we know, he’s a Johnson, he’s always ready to lose control.
“The Other Side” by Jason Derulo
Then his lips land hard on mine, kissing me. It’s a full hot-tongue-straight-into-my-mouth kiss.
The Scene: My caveman fantasy.
Eeekkkkk!! Aiden finally kisses her with his tongue! Even though they keep saying they want to be just friends, if it weren’t for Aiden’s restraint in this situation, they definitely would have gone to the “other side.”
“Live for the Night” by Krewella
I’m not sure if I lit up the stage or not, but I do know that the stage lit up something inside of me.
The Scene: Life can follow a script.
One of my favorite Keatyn lines in the series is, “I’m not sure if I lit up the stage or not, but I do know that the stage lit up something inside of me.” Keatyn definitely loves the spotlight. And she’s finally okay with it. This is a big growth moment for her.
“Omen” by The Prodigy
I drop the bouquet and look around wildly. Because I know. Vincent is here.
The Scene: Didn’t listen.
After the play, Keatyn gets flowers with a chaos symbol on the card, and she panics thinking it’s Vincent. Although it isn’t, this song is sort of foreshadowing that at some point, he will be at Eastbrooke.
“Pompeii” by Bastille
I look into his warm blue eyes. Eyes that engulf me with more emotions than the ocean could hold. Eyes that make me feel like I’m riding a wave. The eyes of home.
The Scene: Sandy castles.
This playlist has so many great Keatyn and Brooklyn songs. She’s so torn between her old life and her new life. Her old love. And there are times when she just doesn’t know what she should do. Brooklyn represents so much more to her than love at this point. He represents her needing her life back, her wanting to go home. And this song has a battle undertone to the music that is so fitting. She was left to fend for herself. The walls tumbling remind me of their love falling apart. But it’s so easy for her to close her eyes, be in his arms, and pretend nothing has changed.
“This Is What It Feels Like” by Armin van Buuren
I close my eyes and take it all in. The smells, the sounds. All of which feel like home. Except. Not quite.
The Scene: Pull the trigger and shoot.
Cooper and Keatyn are in California on the beach. She wants it to feel like home, but it doesn’t quite. This song is so how she’s feeling. She feels alone. She’s not sure if she will survive Vincent. I love, love, love this song. And in case you’re wondering, she’s thinking about Aiden, not Brooklyn.
“Like Home” by Nicky Romero
“Because, he’s not you.”
The Scene: We’ve changed.
She goes back and tells Aiden about seeing Brooklyn. And for the first time, he doesn’t get mad and walk away. This is a defining moment in their relationship and shows his growth. Aiden makes wherever she is feel like home. And, people, this is HUGE! Hello, spoiler alert right here!
“We’ll Be Coming Back” by Calvin Harris
“We’ll fight together. I want you back on the beach with me.”
The scene: Still my bliss.
This song is sad. From Brooklyn’s point of view. It even goes back to him not wanting to label their relationship. Brooklyn knows he’s made mistakes with Keatyn. He wants to press rewind. Start over. And he wants to be back with her. Back on their beach.
“Kiss Me Slowly” by Parachute
It’s hard to feel where my hand ends and his begins. They are interlaced. Entwined.
The Scene: For a rainy day.
The absolute perfect song for Keatyn and Aiden at the top of the Empire State building. From his point of view. Love how it talks about the lights, the city, her lips, her skin, and kissing slowly. Because we all know he has time-stood-still kisses with her.
“Dream Life” by The Royal
The music is blaring. The crowd is hot and sweaty. Aiden pulls me closer and sways slowly with me. And his delicious lips find my neck.
The Scene: For a rainy day.
Another Aiden song. It’s so freaking cute! He feels like he’s living a dream life dancing with her at the club, spending the weekend with her. His life is a dream because they are together.
“Just Like Heaven” by The Cure
“I’ve died and gone to hottie heaven,” I whisper.
The Scene: For a rainy day.
An old song that Keatyn snuck into the mix. One of their songs. I always wondered if anyone knew why there were random old songs for important scenes between them and hoped this wouldn’t give away the ending. In this scene, they are in the bath tub, wearing swimsuits, and he’s using a piece of ice on her, which is why she feels like she’s died and gone to hottie heaven.
“Skip To The Good Part” by He Is We
He looks me in the eyes, speaking directly to my soul. “This is the good part, Boots.”
The Scene: For a rainy day.
Cute, cute song. She’s mad at him for not wanting to go further. She wants to skip to the good stuff. I love that he tells her this is the good part. And she finally gets it.
“Bougie” by Jessi Malay
“You’re a little too good of a shopper. I’m tired, broke, and starving.”
The scene: Take me shopping.
Cute song about shopping! I love that Aiden likes to shop with her.
“I Want You So Hard” by Eagles of Death Metal
I explore his mouth like it holds the answers to the universe.
The Scene: Ohmigawd.
This song actually came out a few years after this scene really happened, but it is also a ten-year-old song that found it’s way into the playlist filled with new music. I’m pretty sure Keatyn wants Aiden. Badly.
“Waves and the Both of Us” by Charlotte Sometime
Who needs feathers when we have that tongue?
The Scene: I need the feathers.
Just from the title you would think this song is about Brooklyn, but the lyrics, you have to listen to it. They speak of moon, stars, lips, and Keatyn wanting everything from Aiden. This is such a sweet, sexy song. And so fitting of their relationship at this point.
“Clarity” by Zedd
I have to protect what’s left of my heart.
The scene: What’s wrong, baby?
This song is still played on the radio often. I can’t listen to the words without crying. Keatyn knows she loves Aiden. She believes their story will end badly. Because she’s lying to him. Because she loves him so much that he almost has the power to destroy her. Their love story is tragic, but yet, she still loves him. And she knows she has to leave him.
“Sad” by Maroon 5
I’ll always be drawn to his side.
The Scene: Can’t deal.
This song, like the title, is sad. This song is from Aiden’s point of view. Chelsea lied to Keatyn about them being together. Riley broke his nose. He and Keatyn made up, but yet, she’s not getting back with him. I want to go hug him.
“Wake Me Up” by Avicii
“I’m fine. Just a little broken. But I’ve been broken for a while. I’m like a chip on your windshield.”
The Scene: A friendly voice.
Keatyn talking to Damian. She’s still sad. She doesn’t like the journey she’s on, but she has no choice. She wishes she could just close her eyes and be woken up when it’s all over. But I love the line about finding yourself when you didn’t know you were lost. Because Keatyn totally found herself at Eastbrooke.
“Stars” by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
“I officially hate you!” I say to the moon. “I never should have made a stupid wish on you!”
The Scene: Stupid glow.
Oh, this song. Another really sad one. Keatyn can’t stand to look at the stars, because they represent Aiden. And she’s never going to see him, or Eastbrooke again. (Although I believe the lyrics are talking about someone who died.) Aiden isn’t dead, thank goodness, but she believes that their love is. Has to be.
“Just One Last Time” by David Guetta
And the longer I’m there—the closer we get—the more I feel like I’m being eaten from the inside out.
The Scene: Write my name in the sand.
Let’s cry some more. His voice sounds like he’s crying. She can’t move away. She doesn’t know if she can do it. She doesn’t know if she’s strong enough to fight Vincent. But she knows what she has to do. She doesn’t want to put Aiden or Eastbrooke in danger. She feels she doesn’t have a choice. It’s so sad.
Adore Me: The Soundtrack
“Please Don’t Go” by Mike Posner
“I don’t care if everything we’ve told each other up until this point is a lie. We start over. Here. Today.”
The Scene: Wash away the hurt.
Aiden shows up on the plane to St. Croix! He brings her dirt. He begs her not to go. He also practically tells readers here that he knows the truth about her when he says he doesn’t care about the lies. Did it seem odd to you that he said that? Because he never lied to her.
“Lucky Charm” by Keith Urban
“Take mine and wish for something new.”
The Scene: Make a wish.
Love this scene. Their wishes are so cute, and I love that he gives her his wish because he’s already lucky.
“Closer” by Tegan and Sara
“You make every moment beautiful.”
The Scene: It’s my surfboard.
Everyone said, even if she doesn’t end up with Aiden that they’d always have Adore Me. This playlist is filled with adorable love songs for the most part. It’s time to finally revel in them being together.
“Let Go” by Frou Frou
“This has to stop. All this what if bullshit.”
The Scene: What if bullshit.
Damian’s tough love here. He’s such a good friend when he tells her not to let what happened with Vincent change her.
“Happily Ever After” by He is We
“Maybe it means I’m going to die soon,” I say softly, knowing it could happen.
The Scene: Meaning in everything.
This is such a cute song. Keatyn wants her own happily ever after.
“What’s Your Fantasy?” by Ludacris
“I’ve been dreaming of slowly undressing you.”
The scene: Obsession with fairytales.
Sexy song. Aiden has been having a few fantasies about Keatyn.
“Rest of My Life” by Ludacris
“It’s times like these that we stop to reflect on our lives.”
The Scene: Love song about her lips.
This is such an important song at this point in Keatyn’s life. This scene, Thanksgiving, toasting life. Toasting friends. Keatyn’s about to face Vincent, and she needs this. Because her friends and family are what will get her through it.
“Starry Eyed” by Ellie Goulding
The second our fingers touch, it’s like magic.
The Scene: Your lips on mine.
It’s only fitting that Aiden makes Keatyn starry-eyed.
“How to Live” by The Perfect Addiction
“You promised to do all the stuff on my list. That starts today.”
The Scene: About last night.
If you’ve never heard of this band, check them out. I heard about them from a reader when I was looking for someone to record my music. If I hadn’t been able to get Kyle Patrick, I totally would have tried to work with them. This song is perfect here. Aiden wants to help Keatyn live, if only she’d just tell him the truth. And I love that they are doing things on her bucket list together.
“Beam Me” Up by Cazette
“That breeze was like the colors of the wind. The earth is telling you to jump with me.”
The Scene: The love cliff.
Love when they jump off the love cliff together. That he asks if she trusts him. I like the lyrics to this song. There’s part about them taking off together. And the whole part about not looking down.
“Say It, Just Say It” by The Mowgli’s
Every part of me wants to tell him. To say it out loud.
The Scene: Totally did the deed.
A very cute, beachy sounding song that’s fitting. Aiden wants to tell her he loves her. And we all want him to say it, too!
“Turn Around” by Conor Maynard
A few moments later, he comes up from behind me, wraps his arms around my waist, and whispers, “Open.”
The Scene: Totally did the deed.
I love Aiden and his surprises. Here, he writes love in the sand. And this song, he just wants her to look at him. To know he’s there for her. That they will be together forever.
“Years” by Alesso
“You know, they say the moon controls the tides. So now you’ll have both luck and the tides of fate on your side.”
The Scene: A ding dong ditcher.
Aiden gives her luck and fate when he makes her a necklace. And they will both remember it for years to come.
“Unbreakable” by Michael Mind Project
“I believe death is coming back for you.”
The Scene: A dangerous journey.
Girl power. You can do it, Keatyn, through the emotions, the tears, the terror. She has no choice. She has to save herself. She has to fight Vincent alone. And she has to be unbreakable.
“I Can Only Imagine” by David Guetta
The shower glass is starting to fog over, but I can still his naked outline.
The scene: Its official title.
Ohhh, imagining what it will be like with the Titan. Although this song is more from Aiden’s point of view. Because, come on, he’s naked, in the shower. And he can only imagine what it will be like when they are finally together.
“Let Me Love You” by Ne-Yo
“Yeah, like everyone falls in love at different times in their lives. And when you’re in it, you think you know what it’s like to be in love. Until you meet your true love and then you know the other love wasn’t the same thing.”
The Scene: The green flash.
Fun fact. This is one of two songs (the other is “Sorta Like Fate”) that are featured on more than one book’s playlist. This song was also included on the Kiss Me playlist, and Aiden’s feelings are even stronger now. He wants to be the one to love her. To show her what true love is.
“Honey and the Moon” by Joseph Arthur
“I wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for one special girl.”
The Scene: This one’s for you.
When Brooklyn calls and he’s won the tournament. His song is sad. It talks of the sea, dreams, and them.
“If I Lose Myself Tonight” by Alesso vs OneRepublic
“A deep within my soul, heartbreakingly beautiful kind of love.”
The Scene: From the beginning.
Aiden is breaking down Keatyn’s walls. But should she allow herself to love him? She wants to have a life with him.
“Daylight” by Maroon 5
My brain is still counting down—ticking and ticking— the hours and, now, the minutes until I have to say goodbye.
The Scene: Sorta like fate.
I feel so bad for Keatyn here. The time keeps ticking. Their last night. She can’t sleep. She knows she’s going to tell him goodbye.
“The Spark” by Afrojack
“Now if I could just put in words how I felt when I first met her.”
The scene: Sorta like fate.
Damian being adorable talking about him and Peyton. This is also the scene where he and Keatyn collaborate on writing the song, “Sorta Like Fate”.
“Never Say Goodbye” by Hardwell & Dyro
“I thought about faking my death. Even about killing myself.”
The Scene: I wish none of us had to leave.
Oh, she doesn’t want to say good-bye to Aiden. But she can’t be afraid to live. Or die.
“I Finally Found You” by Enrique Iglesias ft. Sammy Adams
“I just wanted to be able to say goodbye.”
The Scene: I wish none of us had to leave.
Another song with Sammy Adams. Once again, Aiden for Moon Boy! This song is so Keatyn and Aiden from Aiden’s point of view. He has to go with her because she has his heart. Love these lyrics. He finally found the girl he wished on the moon for.
Hate Me
“Against the World” by Michael S. & Morgan Page
“It’s the thought of not being here with you that makes me cry.”
The Scene: Say yes.
Love that with Aiden she feels like it’s them against the world, and something she desperately needs right now as she gears up for her battle with Vincent.
“Faint” by Linkin Park
Be strong, Keatyn. It’s time for you to take charge.
The Scene: Got blown up.
This is the scene where she tells Garrett that she’s taking charge of the Vincent situation. And she tells them her plan. This is a very bold move, and she has to be confident and pretend to have it all together.
“All of You” by Peter Thomas
“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe I’m just mad at myself.”
The Scene: I hate the internet.
Keatyn finds out that Chelsea texted Aiden over break, and he won’t tell her what she said. But they work through it.
“Lie to Me” by Cole Plante
“Don’t say it. I can’t hear it. Not right now.”
The Scene: Back to shore.
This song is sad. I think it’s really a break-up song, but for Keatyn it’s about so much more. She wants Brooklyn to lie to her. She doesn’t want to hear about the other girl because Brooklyn represents home to her. The beach. She needs to know that he’s in this fight with her. And he maybe isn’t really.
“Without You” by David Guetta
“I can’t believe you would bail on me like this! I need you!”
The Scene: Liquidity
Then Brooklyn tells her that he can’t help her with the hostile takeover, and she’s so upset. She feels lost. She doesn’t think she can do it without him.
“Feel Good” by Goldhouse
“I thought they’d make you feel better.”
The Scene: You come to me.
And then there’s Aiden, who wants to do nothing but help her. He doesn’t want to see her cry. He wants to make her life perfect.
“Kick Out the Epic Motherf**ker” by Dada Life
I draw a little crowd, which makes me dance a little naughtier.
The Scene: Fireball shots.
Keatyn goes to the club to see Vincent and dances in the cage in front of him. This is a fun party song perfect for the setting. Also, this song has a story. Molly McAdams and I went on a road trip to Atlanta a few years ago for a reader get together with Kyla (K.A.) Linde. My daughter made me a “great playlist” of songs. This was literally an epic playlist as it went on for hours and hours (It’s an eleven hour drive.) It was now morning. We decided not to stop but were getting tired and crabby. We stopped at McDonalds and when we were pulling out of the parking lot with our food, this song came on. Neither of us had ever heard it before, but when the first set of lyrics build up to the epic part and there’s all that bass, we both started head banging in the same way at the same time. We died laughing. And then had to listen to it a million times so we could learn the words…and stay awake.
“Marry Me” by Jason Derulo
I swear, I just forgot how to breathe.
The Scene: Gritty, raw performance.
Aiden asks Keatyn to go to winter formal at the top of a homemade Eiffel Tower at sunset. More foreshadowing for sure, but I was nervous to have this on the playlist at this point. The debate about who she would choose was hot. People were passionate about both Brooklyn and Aiden being right for her. And here, with this song, Aiden is telling you exactly what’s going to happen. He’s going to ask her to marry him—at, you guessed it, Top of the Eiffel Tower at sunset.
“Young Forever” by Jay Z
“You two are having entirely too serious a conversation.”
The Scene: Control in the chaos.
The gang is at Stockton’s partying, but Keatyn and Aiden are discussing the girl who hugged Brooklyn after he surfed. She is telling him that if it weren’t for the stalker, that girl would have been her. It’s the moment when she realizes that Aiden is the calm in her chaos.
“Best Day of my Life” by American Authors
“This has been the best birthday.”
The Scene: Kinda bossy.
Aiden’s birthday where she rents out a racetrack for him as a gift. He tells her it’s the best day of his life. Plus, she’s wearing jeans. And he likes them.
“Enjoy the Ride” by Krewella
“It’s about to get crazy!”
The Scene: Look outside.
A sweet moment where Aiden wakes Keatyn up to show her the snow that has fallen. And although she’s afraid of what she’s about to do, with Aiden, she just has to enjoy the ride.
“Collide” by Jake Miller
“Maybe you should unzip my pants. Get a better feel.”
The Scene: I’m not ready for that.
Oh, get ready for some sexy K & A times. I think this song is the perfect song for them. Because, it’s about time these two collide. I see this from Aiden’s point of view. I love how it talks about the stars lining up for them. And it’s a fun song they could dance to.
“Should’ve Been a Cowboy” by Toby Keith
A softly playing song catches my attention and stirs up a childhood memory.
The Scene: Something up his sleeve.
This song makes Keatyn cry. She used to listen to it with her dad, and she wants so badly to tell Aiden about him.
“Laser Light” by Jessie J
But when I get to the top of the stairs, I can barely believe my eyes.”
The Scene: Something up his sleeve.
The Christmas tree scene! Love how the song talks about how he took her breath away. And how Aiden is like a light for her, making her feel fantastic, safe, and like she might survive this all. Especially when the tree is basically their story.
“Shush” by Rachele Royale
“Panties. I win.”
The Scene: Lied myself into a corner.
H.O. Double T, Hot. This is the hottest scene Aiden and Keatyn have shared up until this point. This is a song I listened to a lot when writing their love scenes. It’s a sexy, hot song. Just like they are together.
“Intoxicated” by The Cab
“The only word that accurately describes it is intoxicating.”
The Scene: Lied myself into a corner.
Aww, Aiden. He is intoxicated by Keatyn. Love this song. Love them.
“Punishment Time” by Korn
There is nothing. Just. Emptiness. Loneliness. Despair.
The Scene: Straight out of a movie.
Well, after the love fest and sexy times in New York, the shit starts hitting the fan. Keatyn is devastated when one of the dancers from the club is killed. And the way she is found is clearly a message. Keatyn feels horrible, and this song I picture as Vincent singing. Like he’s punishing her.
“Reload” by Sebastian Ingrosso
“You couldn’t have known it was going to happen.”
The Scene: Straight out of a movie.
At what feels like her lowest point, Keatyn has to just pick herself up and keep going. And she gets through it with help and advice from both Riley and Aiden.
“In the End” by Black Veil Brides
“You’ve done everything exactly the way I requested, right?”
The Scene: Madder than a wet hen.
I’m pretty sure I listened to this song about a million times in writing these last two books so I could get this feeling, her mood, just right. It’s Keatyn thinking about what’s going to happen to her in the end. Will she survive? And if she doesn’t, who will tell people about her life? Who will remember her? At this point in the story, she is still lying to everyone at Eastbrooke, especially Aiden. This is the scene specifically where she signs the papers to buy the land that she wants to give Aiden so he can live out his dream. She also gives her attorney a letter to give Aiden when she dies, so he will know how she felt. And what this land means to her. After this scene, she’s better. She’s not as afraid to die anymore. And then she goes to face Vincent again.
“Trouble” by Neon Jungle
“This utter chaos is for you!”
The Scene: Madder than a wet hen.
I love the straight-out-of-a-movie stunt that she and Riley came up with for when she goes back to the club to honor the dancer. This song is perfect. She’s back dancing in the cage. She’s telling Vincent she’s going to be his worst nightmare. That she is trouble. A hurricane. And that trouble is going to start raining down on him.
“Awake and Alive” by Skillet
Strong arms pull me into a coffin.
The Scene: Madder than a wet hen.
Can you imagine what it must have felt like for Keatyn to get put into that coffin in front of Vincent? How scared she must have been. And I love this song because it feels like Vincent and Keatyn could be singing it to each other—both of them thinking it’s their time and not wanting to back down.
“Freaks” by The Royal
I look at the long bar, knowing it wouldn’t take much convincing to get the girls up there with me.
The Scene: Girls dancing.
Another cute song by The Royal. Perfect for the Naughty Christmas party at Stocktons. And for dancing on the bar.
“Dare You” by Hardwell
I’m seriously considering dragging his ass out of here this second.
The Scene: Follow my script.
Winter formal. Keatyn and Aiden sharing their last perfect dance before they go back to the hotel for a perfect night.
“Liar Liar” by Avicii
I’ve been stalked and kissed and dated and loved, but now I can see it clearly on their faces. Hate.
The Scene: Follow my script.
But when Whitney is going to do something horrible to Peyton, Keatyn does something incredible for her friend. She tells the truth about herself, but then lies about why. Oh, yeah, and Aiden walks out.
Get Me
Because this was the last book in the series, I didn’t put quotes on the playlist due to spoilers.
“Find You” by Zedd
The Scene: Epic, weed-induced dream.
This song so fits Keatyn and Aiden at this point. It talks about dancing. About how they will find each other in the end. Love it.
“Meet Me At The Beach” by Twisted Dreams
The Scene: Meet me at the beach.
Adorable.
“Sorta Like Fate” by Twisted Dreams
The Scene: Words that fill my pages.
Aww, this is the perfect song for this scene, and I’m so happy you get to hear it.
“Lightning” by The Wanted
The Scene: Glimpse of the future.
Because I always think of lightning and Aiden and how electrical his feelings for Keatyn are, it’s no surprise that there are two songs on this playlist with the same title. They are quite different songs, however. This one talks about how when their lips touch it’s like they come to life. And how when they touch it’s like they are playing around with lightning. It’s a very fitting song for when Keatyn and Aiden are in the gazebo in France, and their first time. “Our kissing changes from sweet to passionate, then to almost frantic. I feel volatile, like I could explode, combust, or ignite. His hands are in my hair, my tongue is swirling against his, and my head totally filled with cotton candy. I can’t think. I can only feel. The fire that is Aiden.”
“All of Me” (Tiesto’s birthday treatment) by John Legend
The Scene: Glimpse of the future.
This song is so romantic and also fits the loving mood of what transpires in the gazebo.
“Bring You To Life” by Steve Aoki and Rune RK
The Scene: One of her steps.
This was a tough song to choose. It’s Christmas in France, Keatyn and Aiden have consummated their relationship and are happy. Then Brooklyn calls and brings the reality of the situation crashing back down. This song highlights Aiden’s feelings in this scene. He’s so supportive and committed to her, and this song’s lyrics reflect that.
“No Stopping Us” by Dirtyphonics
The Scene: Make some noise.
This is a super upbeat song that is perfect for Keatyn and Knox’s night at the club. I also love the words about not stopping us, which is exactly how Keatyn feels. Like she’s going to win this fight with Vincent and can’t be stopped. Especially since she now has help from Knox to get into the tabloids.
“Kings And Queens” by SoMo
The Scene: That many times.
This song is sexy and perfect for Keatyn and Aiden to dance to as they celebrate the New Year with a kiss. The song talks about everyone being in love. Plus, SoMo has a very sexy voice.
“Dangerous” by Within Temptation
The Scene: No need for threats.
This song is so cool, and I was so excited when I first heard it. I love how there is both a male and female voice, and they both sing about things being dangerous, about worlds colliding, which makes me almost picture Vincent and Keatyn each singing their part almost to each other, or at the same time, not knowing the other is feeling the same way. She sings about feeling caged in, about a countdown starting, walls falling down, lives being on the line, and fear. He sings about the reaper and destiny. Then they sing together about how it’s dangerous.
“This Is The Time” by Nothing More
The Scene: Call me!
This is another song that I listened to on repeat. I can tell you exactly where I was, too. I was sitting in Modesto, California, in August, in a very hot and busy kart racing tent. My son had a big race that I didn’t want to miss, but I was on a tight deadline and had to work every second he wasn’t on the track. I had my headphones in blaring this song so that I could try to concentrate on the story. And this part of the story was tough to write. In this scene, specifically, Keatyn is creating a fake public life so that Vincent will see her out and about. She’s trying to push him over the edge. But in doing so, it’s adversely affecting her relationship with Aiden. She’s shutting him out, trying to protect him. And in a way, she’s losing herself, losing her life, along the way. Which is a bit of a conundrum since she’s trying to get her life back. This song also has a sad quality to it, yet a heart pounding beat. And it fits the mood for this scene and for this entire part of the book.
“This Is What It Feels Like” by Armin van Buuren
The Scene: Sort of awkward.
This song goes with the scene where Keatyn finds out that Brooklyn has been kidnapped by Vincent. The lyrics talk of a battle. Of drowning without your love. About needing to be saved. About not knowing if they will survive. It perfectly portrays the desperation she feels.
“Not Gonna Die” by Skillet
The Scene: Get away.
So many of the songs for this book are so heavy. But the stakes in this book are big, so it makes sense. This is the song I picture for the scenes when Keatyn and Vincent are fighting, when the Secret Service pulls up and starts shooting, and when she jumps in front of him, so he won’t die. And the words, gosh, talking about fighting back, taking your life back, not giving up.
And then the girl’s voice talking about the last time she heard his voice. And Vincent fighting, holding on, wanting nothing more than to not die, to just be with his beloved Lacy. I listened to this song, many, many times.
“This Love” by The Veronicas
The Scene: Get away.
Gosh, pretty much every song on this playlist makes me want to cry for a variety of reasons. It may be because it’s the culmination of everything. It may be because lives and love are on the line. I’m pretty sure there were a few e-readers tossed in anger at this part. Aiden crashed his car into the van. Vincent is now dead. And she’s leaving Aiden at the scene of the accident, hurt, going to the hospital in an ambulance. He’s injured; his car is totaled. She’s been hit on the back of the head, in a car wreck, fought Vincent, got shot, watched him die in her arms. She’s finally free. But yet, she’s not. She has to go find Brooklyn. And for those of you who were worried it meant she loved B more, that she was choosing him, this song tells you exactly how she’s feeling. She doesn’t want to go. Her heart is breaking. She’s never felt a love like his before. And she won’t give up on them.
“Waves” by Mr. Probz
The Scene: Catastrophic events.
This song talks of waves, of drifting away, of drowning. Which is how Keatyn feels when she learns that Brooklyn is presumed dead in the explosion that took place at Vincent’s grandmother’s home.
“Siren” by Kat Krazy
The Scene: Face facts.
This song, you guys. Oh my gosh. It talks of being face to face under the stars. About confessing love. About the moon. The sea. But it goes a step further and pretty much foreshadows Keatyn saving Brooklyn from the sky falling. (The bomb.) And about breaking down walls. (Which she does to get him out of the safe room.) And it talks about never letting someone go. It’s perfect.
“Numb” by Usher
The Scene: Face facts.
Oh, this song. I’m not sure the true meaning of this song, but I can tell you how it affected me. This is one of the songs that I listened to over and over on repeat.
During a three-hour drive, I listened to this song the entire trip. At the time, I had just finished writing book two, and although I knew that Brooklyn would get kidnapped and Keatyn would rescue him in the last book, I didn’t know about the bombs. But as I listened to this song, the scene unfolded in front of me and I had to keep listening to it again and again. During that drive home, I wrote a whole notebook worth of notes, sprawled in a sloppy nearly indecipherable way because I couldn’t look to see what I was writing as I was driving.
The beat reminds me of a ticking bomb. The emotion in his voice makes me think of her dad. And when he talks about letting go, it’s like she’s both losing herself and finding herself all at once. And because of it, she does something really brave. The song talks about knowing what’s real. About life being a battlefield. About what’s important. And until this moment, Keatyn didn’t really know what she was capable of.
“Unstoppable” by R3hab
The Scene: Face facts.
This is such an amazing girl power song. And it fits the scene so well. Can’t you just picture Keatyn running out of the house, tossing the bomb in the ocean, it exploding and knocking her to the ground, but she gets up and runs into the house to free Brooklyn? She’s finally won. She can see the end. She’s fought through it all. She’s unstoppable.
“Apart” by Orjan Milsen & Jonathan Mendelsohn
The Scene: Good to be home.
Writing Aiden’s point of view killed me. And so does this song. It talks about how when they aren’t together he feels incomplete. Like pieces of him are missing. And the pain he feels when they are apart. And he won’t be better until she’s back in his arms.
“Lightning” by Cash Cash
The Scene: Good to be home.
More from Aiden’s point of view. Heartbreaking. This song talks about him being all she ever needed, him wondering how he let her get away, how she was like a lightning bolt to his soul, his heart. About how they should be together forever. And although this song is specifically about this scene, it also goes back to Aiden’s wish on the moon. How desperate he felt that night. How he was embarrassed. How he vowed to change his life, his ways. When Keatyn kicked the soccer ball at his head in the first book, he said it was like she woke up his soul. This song brings that emotion to life for me.
“Just Say Yes” by Snow Patrol
The Scene: Good to be home.
This song is so desperate feeling. The music makes me want to cry. Aiden’s shown her over and over how much he loves her, and this is it. He won’t be okay without her. He can’t wait to know who she’s going to choose. He just wants her to say yes and take his hand. That’s all. It seems like such a simple thing, but it’s huge. She needs to tell him her decision. I also love the part in the song about how there is nothing holding her back, because finally, in their story, there isn’t anything in their way anymore. No lies. No stalker. But what life will Keatyn choose? He wants her to choose him so badly. It’s like he’s begging in the song. He’s about to explode. He just wants her to say yes.
“Right Here Right Now” by Sander van Doorn
The Scene: The dress of your dreams.
Finally! Happiness for Keatyn and Aiden. And this song is so upbeat and talks about the stars at night, and being together right now. And that’s all that matters.
“Shooting Star” by Owl City
The Scene: The dress of your dreams.
This is one of those songs that I heard early on when I was writing the series and saved for this last playlist. It brings tears to my eyes still when I hear it, which is funny because it’s a happy song. And I think that’s why. After all the drama in the series, Keatyn is finally free. She’s with Aiden. On the red carpet. And he’s her arm candy. The Hollywood lights are out, and she’s shining. It’s like everything they have been through, all her dreams, have finally come true. And she’s exactly where she’s supposed to be.
“Set Yourself Free” by Tiesto
The Scene: Follow your heart.
This song is awesome. It’s got a girl power feel to it and is so fitting of the scene at Keatyn’s pre-party with her best friends before they go to her birthday party. She stands up on the bar, holds up a drink, and toasts them. And her toast, well, it sums up the whole book from a friend standpoint. “For those of you who came to my party last year, thank you for still being my friends, even though I left with no explanation. For those of you I’ve met since then, thank you for understanding why I had to lie to you, and for still being my friends. The party we’re heading to is the same as last year’s in so many ways. Same club. A lot of the same people. Last year, I had hoped all my friends—from surfing, partying, and school—would come together and instantly become friends. But you didn’t. And now I know why. It was because of me. I wanted to keep you separate because I didn’t know where I fit in or who I wanted to be. So, raise your glasses and toast each other. This is for you. Love yourselves. Find control in your chaos. Follow your heart. And don’t be afraid to wish on the moon.”
And the song fits this. It speaks of the perfect Hollywood life, of breaking free. I love it.
“She Looks So Perfect” by 5 Seconds of Summer
The Scene: Sunday, August 19th
Such a cute song, from Aiden’s point of view. Keatyn standing there, looking perfect in his underwear. About being young and in love. And in this scene, Keatyn and Aiden do something sexy, in her closet, on a furry rug, surrounded by all her clothes.
“All These Roads” by Sultan & Ned Shepard
The Scene: Sunday, August 19th
It was so hard to find a song that summed up Keatyn and Aiden ending up on the hill, looking out at the sun setting over the ocean, surrounded by rows and rows of grapes on the land that she bought him. On the land that would become their home. The place they will raise their family, and where Aiden fulfills his dreams in both his personal and professional life. Their foundation, their mansion of love, and the dirt—it was perfect. Their roads lead them there. And the song fits with lyrics about finding a place to call home.
“Do Or Die” by Thirty Seconds to Mars
The Scene: Sunday, August 19th
This song was a great way to end the movie of their lives as it talks about their story continuing on and on. Forever.
“Sorta Like Fate” (Acoustic) by Twisted Dreams
Music and performance by Kyle Patrick.
The Scene: Sunday, August 19th
Of course, this song would have to be on the soundtrack for when Keatyn and Aiden are at the top of the Eiffel Tower at sunset getting engaged. It’s sorta like fate that we’re together. It’s sorta like fate that we’re both here. . . .
You pull on me like gravity,
I wanna get down on one knee.
The world can spin around us,
Cuz, baby, now it’s you and me.
